Terms & Conditions
Last updated: 5 November 2026
Welcome to Maria Tutors. These Terms & Conditions explain how my private tutoring services work, including lesson arrangements, payments, cancellations and responsibilities.
By agreeing to paid tuition, you confirm that you have read and understood these terms. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory consumer rights.
1. About My Tuition Services
I provide private tuition for GCSE, A-Level and university students, with lessons tailored to individual learning needs and academic goals.
Tuition is primarily delivered online and may include:
-
Individual one-to-one lessons.
-
Shared GCSE lessons for two students, including siblings or friends.
-
Small-group GCSE lessons for three or four students.
-
Single lessons or discounted five-lesson packages.
All tuition is subject to availability and suitability.
2. Enquiries and Lesson Arrangements
All tuition begins with an enquiry. Students are welcome to enquire directly.
After receiving your enquiry, I will review your requirements and contact you to discuss the support needed, lesson format, pricing and availability.
Submitting an enquiry does not constitute a booking or guarantee that tuition will be offered.
Lessons are only confirmed once both parties have agreed on the arrangements.
Students under 18 should involve a parent or carer before booking. A parent or carer with parental responsibility must agree to the tuition arrangements and these Terms & Conditions, and give consent before tuition begins.
3. Free Introductory Session
I offer a complimentary 30-minute introductory session for new prospective students.
This session provides an opportunity to:
-
Discuss learning goals and areas requiring support.
-
Understand the student's current level and requirements.
-
Ask questions about my teaching approach.
-
Discuss possible lesson arrangements.
The introductory session is free of charge and carries no obligation to continue with paid tuition.
Introductory sessions are subject to availability, and I reserve the right to decline enquiries that fall outside my expertise or availability.
4. Lesson Duration and Delivery
Standard tuition sessions last 60 minutes unless otherwise agreed.
Lessons are primarily conducted online using Teams or Zoom.
Students should have access to a suitable device, a reliable internet connection and an appropriate learning environment.
If technical difficulties occur, I will make reasonable efforts to continue, reschedule or provide an alternative arrangement.
Where a session cannot proceed because of a technical problem on my side, the affected tuition will be rescheduled or refunded.
5. Pricing and Payments
Tuition prices vary according to the academic level and lesson format.
Current rates are displayed on the relevant tuition pages of my website.
Individual Lessons: Individual lessons are charged at the agreed hourly rate.
Five-Lesson Packages: Five-lesson packages are available at a 5% discount compared with purchasing five individual lessons at the same rate. Package arrangements and payment details will be confirmed before the first lesson.
Shared and Group Lessons: Shared GCSE lessons are priced per student. Group pricing depends on the number of students and the agreed lesson arrangement. Prices will be confirmed before lessons begin.
Payment: Payment is required in cash or by bank transfer before the start of the lesson, or in advance for lesson packages.
No additional charges will be introduced without prior agreement.
6. Cancellations and Rescheduling
I understand that plans can change and aim to offer reasonable flexibility.
More Than 24 Hours' Notice: Lessons cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours' notice can be changed without charge.
Any prepaid lesson credit will remain available for rearrangement or refund, as applicable.
Less Than 24 Hours' Notice: Where less than 24 hours' notice is given, a cancellation charge of up to 50% of the agreed lesson price may apply.
The charge is intended to reflect the time reserved and the loss reasonably arising from a late cancellation. It will not exceed the reasonable loss resulting from the cancellation, taking account of any costs saved or opportunity to reallocate the session.
For prepaid lesson packages, an equivalent amount may be deducted from the remaining package credit rather than charged separately.
Missed Lessons: If a student does not attend a confirmed lesson without providing notice, the same late-cancellation arrangements may apply.
Cancellations by Me: If I need to cancel a lesson, I will provide as much notice as reasonably possible and offer an alternative time or a refund for the affected session. I will not charge students for lessons cancelled by me.
These arrangements do not override any applicable statutory cancellation or refund rights.
7. Five-Lesson Packages and Refunds
Five-lesson packages contain five 60-minute lessons at the agreed discounted rate.
Lessons may be arranged at mutually convenient times, subject to availability.
If a student wishes to discontinue a package, unused lessons will not be refunded.
8. Statutory Cancellation Rights
Where a tuition contract is agreed at a distance, such as by email or online, consumers may have a statutory right to cancel within 14 days of entering into the contract.
If you wish to begin paid tuition during this period, I will ask you to expressly request that the service starts before the cancellation period ends.
Where permitted by law, if you then exercise your statutory cancellation right after tuition has begun, you may be required to pay a proportionate amount for services already provided.
If the service is fully performed during the cancellation period, the statutory right to cancel may end where the legal requirements for express consent and acknowledgement have been met.
You may exercise any applicable statutory cancellation right by contacting me. You do not need to provide a reason.
Your statutory consumer rights take precedence over any conflicting provision in these Terms & Conditions. The required cancellation information and model cancellation form will be provided when applicable.
9. Student Responsibilities
Students are expected to:
-
Attend lessons punctually.
-
Participate respectfully and constructively.
-
Have any agreed learning materials available.
-
Communicate relevant learning goals or difficulties.
-
Complete optional practice work where appropriate.
Students are encouraged to ask questions and take an active role in their learning.
10. Academic Integrity
My tuition is intended to support understanding, independent learning and academic development.
I can provide guidance on concepts, research methods, data interpretation, scientific writing and academic skills.
However, I do not complete assessed assignments, examinations, dissertations or coursework on behalf of students.
Students remain responsible for producing their own work and complying with the academic integrity requirements of their school, college or university.
11. Progress and Academic Results
I aim to provide high-quality, personalised tuition that helps students develop their knowledge, confidence and skills.
However, academic progress depends on several factors, including attendance, independent study, engagement and examination performance.
I cannot guarantee particular grades, examination results or academic outcomes.
This does not affect my obligation to provide tutoring services with reasonable care and skill.
12. Tuition for Students Under 18
Students under 18 are welcome to make an initial enquiry directly. They should involve a parent or carer before booking.
Tuition will not begin until a parent or carer with parental responsibility has given consent and agreed to the tuition arrangements and these Terms & Conditions.
A parent or carer will normally be the primary contact for bookings, payments and administrative matters.
Lessons will be conducted professionally and in accordance with appropriate safeguarding practices.
Any safeguarding concerns will be handled in accordance with applicable legal responsibilities and my safeguarding procedures.
13. Lesson Materials and Recording
Materials I create and share during tuition are intended for the student's personal educational use.
Unless otherwise agreed, these materials should not be sold, redistributed publicly or used commercially.
Students must not record or distribute lessons without prior agreement.
I will not record lessons without appropriate prior notice and any permissions required by law.
14. Privacy and Personal Information
Personal information is handled in accordance with my Privacy Policy and applicable UK data protection legislation.
Information provided during enquiries or lessons will only be used for appropriate educational, administrative and legal purposes, as explained in that policy.
15. Changes to These Terms
I may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time.
The latest version will be available on my website.
Where changes materially affect existing tuition arrangements, I will inform affected customers and obtain any agreement required before those changes take effect.
